At Helitech Garmin previewed its upcoming range of helicopter navigation equipment, expanding upon the existing consumer avionics range that has become a benchmark for in-flight navigation worldwide. The G500H is a glass avionics system designed specifically for VFR part 27 helicopters and has Helicopter Synthetic Vision Technology (HSVT™) and helicopter-specific databases, including additional low-altitude obstacles. Also announced is a new Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS) for the GNS 430W & 530W navigation products. Garmin’s HTAWS provides graphical and audible alerts of potential terrain and obstacle conflicts along the user’s flight path. For further details and demonstrations on these and our range of portable devises visit us on stand. When a GNS 430W or 530W series HTAWS (Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System) navigator is installed and interfaced to the G500H, certified “forward looking” terrain avoidance (FLTA) capability is available which predicts in advance where potential hazards may exist. An HTAWS warning received from the GNS 430W or 530W series navigator will be displayed as an annunciation to the left and aligned with the top of the altitude tape on the G500H PFD. the G500H can be purchased with the PFD on either the right or left side of the bezel for easy viewing depending on your pilot seat position. It’s easy to combine the G500H with a variety of optional sensors and data links. Garmin’s GDL 69 series receiver offers weather alerting and NEXRAD coverage for the U.S. via XM® satellite datalink (XM subscription required).
