The Federal Aviation Administration has granted an STC for Simplex manufacturing’s new power line insulator cleaning system for the Bell 407. The new power line insulator washing product is called SMARRT for Simplex Manufacturing Residue Removal Technology. The STC for SMARRT represents the third generation of power line insulator cleaning equipment, bringing performance and value operators. The SMARRT systems use a 120 water gallon tank, a nozzled boom that extends past the rotor and an option for power or manual operator control. Simplex developed the SMARRT system in conjunction with Pacific Gas and Electric of California. The system has been in operation in California for the last three year. The society has begun the STC certification process for the SMARRT power line insulator cleaning system on the AS350, with completion expected in late 2010. The system for the AS350, Simplex Model number 510, has generated customer interest throughout the world.
